On the occasion of the European Cultural Heritage Days 2017, the Bratislava self-governing region is organizing for the eighth time a specialized conference on the cultural heritage of the region, this time with the title “The Tradition of Ceramics in the Bratislava Region and the Possibilities of its Creative Reflection”. It will take place on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in Modra – Harmonia.
“Every year it brings many interesting topics that will enrich the participants, because thanks to this conference they can learn and present the cultural heritage and history of the Bratislava region. This year, ceramics is in the focus of attention, as we have long considered Modra ceramics as an important part of the material cultural heritage. We therefore support all efforts to preserve its tradition,” Pavol Frešo, the chairman of Bratislava self-governing region, said.
Every year, the organizer of the event – the Bratislava self-governing region, focuses on a different segment of cultural heritage. This year’s eighth year is devoted to ceramics under the title “Tradition of Ceramics in the Bratislava Region and Possibilities of its Creative Reflection.”
Interesting lectures are prepared throughout the day, such as Hutterite ceramics and its influence on the production of western Slovakia, which Zuzana Francová from the Museum of Bratislava will discuss. Agáta Petrakovičová from the SNM (Slovak Nation Museum) – Museum of Ľudovít Štúr in Modra will present a reflection of the western Slovak ceramic tradition for the production of the Modra pottery. Claudia Peschel – Wach of VolkskundemuseumWien, a foreign guest at the conference again this year, is focusing on ceramics from the Gmunden workshops in the Hutterite period. Viera Tarkayová from the SNM (Slovak Nation Museum) – Museum of Ľudovít Štúr in Modra will talk about the generation of important post-war ceramics; ethnographer Eva Ševčíková will talk about the masters of majolica these days and their creative potential for the future and Hana Sedláčková from Little Carpathian Museum in Pezinok will talk about the current ceramic masters presented in the Little Carpathian Museum in Pezinok. There will also be information about the new direction of the Slovak folk majolica. Specific forms of support of the tradition of ceramics and ceramic production in the Bratislava region will be presented at the conference by the Department of Tourism and Culture of the Bratislava self-governing region.
The event is organized by the Bratislava self-governing region in cooperation with the project Heritage SK-AT, which is co-financed by the Interreg V-A Slovakia-Austria Cooperation Program.
